New partnership between Perimed and Radiometer - PeriNews April 2019

The PeriFlux 6000 tcpO2 standalone system is the latest generation of transcutaneous monitoring and we’re excited to obtain the distribution rights of the device and further expand its position in the market,"says Henrik Schimmell, President and CEO of Radiometer.

In January 2019 Perimed and Radiometer officially announced a partnership around the distribution of Perimed's PeriFlux 6000 tcpO2 stand-alone by Radiometer. 

Radiometer has become the exclusive distributor of the PeriFlux 6000 tcpO2 stand alone in United States, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Australia, as well as China and Japan, effective January 1st, 2019. 

"Perimed’s mission is to improve the quality of life for people suffering from vascular diseases, by supplying diagnostic instruments in the field of microcirculation and peripheral macrocirculation. We have good products, but our sales capacity is limited. Radiometer’s sales capability and knowledge in tcpO2 is undisputed and we’re excited to have entered into this partnership. We hope this cooperation will lead to improved diagnostic capability in the wound care and hyperbaric sector,"  says Björn Bakken, President of Perimed.

"The Perimed Imager has been a fantastic addition to our studies as it not only helps us verify the occlusion and reperfusion, but it also allows for us to monitor the effects of edema on the brain. It is powerful and easy to use, and we are very pleased with the support and responsiveness of Perimed!" says Noor Shaik, graduate student at Thomas Jefferson University.

Dr. Jianxin Sun was kind enough to allow us to visit his lab at the Translational Medicine Department of Thomas Jefferson University in February.  He has a large team, with many different projects in various stages. In order to bolster his imaging capabilities in the lab, he acquired a PSI HR in 2018. Their main interests for the PSI are in rodent brain, but they also plan to investigate other areas, such as ischemic hind limb.

"I’m really satisfied with the reliability and performance of the Perimed Imager and the support we are receiving. The PSI has been crucial in advancing our research on stroke etc", says Dr. Jianxin Sun, Thomas Jefferson University.

One of the primary users of the PSI in Dr. Sun’s lab is Noor Shaik, who does a lot of work with MCAO (middle cerebral artery occlusion) stroke models in mice. She gave us a very informative lesson of how this surgery is performed and she was able to show us many excellent images indicating a clear stroke (and some interesting phenomena). The laser speckle technology allows them to confirm the presence of a stroke and to monitor how various treatments can affect recovery. Noor Shaik makes the surgery look easy, but as something that can take beginners an hour to perform, you know she has it down to an art completing it in well under 20 minutes!

EPOS - Unique microcirculation technology

The brand new PF 6000 EPOS System (Enhanced Perfusion and Oxygen Saturation) enables truly quantitative microcirculation measurements. It combines laser Doppler flowmetry and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy with advanced biooptical inverse modeling to reveal details of blood flow and blood oxygen saturation. Output is presented in quantitative units (red blood cell tissue fraction in gram red blood cells / 100 gram tissue, or % RBC, oxygen saturation in %, and flow in % RBC × mm/s), and the flow is speed-resolved enabling means to isolate nutritive flow from bulk flow. Results from using the new PF 6000 EPOS System in the large Swedish cohort study SCAPIS will be presented at the ESM-EVBO conference in Maastricht, the Netherlands.
