Big Data is a part of DISA

Dear all, since Big Data now is a part of DISA it is logical to expand our Big Data Newsletter to DISA a Newsletter. And here is our first one with a lot of tips and interesting things to know about Big Data and DISA.

I hope you like it and find it even more interesting than the old one.

Welf Löwe, Professor computer science and research leader for DISA

New website for DISA

We have our own website at:

This site will develop and present our focus areas within DISA. It will soon link to a blog in English with updated information on what we do.

Please help us to give updated information by providing us with information on what you are up to! Send this information to Diana Unander Nordle at:

The university’s new Linnaeus University Centre presented at a Chinese Big Data conference.

DISA-researchers opens up to collaborations with external partners.

Invitation from our friends at BTH: The 30th Annual Workshop of the Swedish Artificial Intelligence Society (SAIS 2017) will take place in Karlskrona, Sweden on May 15-16, 2017.

The SAIS workshop provides an ideal forum for contacts among AI researchers and practitioners in Sweden and neighboring countries, as well as for establishing links with related research disciplines and industry.

On May 2nd there was a seminar with Gustaf Petersson; Big Data in Evaluation. It's probably no exaggeration to say that Big Data is linked to new hopes for new forms of social analysis. At the same time privacy issues are a big challenge. Gustaf has his roots in economic history and is currently working at the Swedish Research Council.

Gustaf Petersson has recently released a new book: Cyber Society, Big Data and Evaluation

The seminar was a part in a serie of seminars on Evaluation lead by Verner Denvall, professor in Social Work.

The newsletter is a part of the work for  Linnaeus University Center for Data Intensive Science and Applications (DISA). DISA focuses its efforts on open questions in collection, analysis and utilization of large data sets. With its core in computer science, it takes a multidisciplinary approach and collaborates with researchers from all faculties at the Linnaeus University.

You receive this email because of your earlier involvement in Big Data activities.
